Community Weaver, Educator, Artist

Zahn

Hello, I am Spirit Zahn. I am a community weaver, designer of collective spaces to share resources, educational workshops and mutual aid. I am a visual artist focused in textile & digital media.  As a queer, non-binary individual of mixed ancestry,  I bring a deep commitment to environmental justice & amplifying QTBIPOC voices.

In Oakland I organize community events and an annual fashion art show for QTBIPOC artists. In parallel co-created the media lab, a community space for access to shared art equipment while offering educational programs. I incorporate restorative justice, dynamic mindfulness, and anti-colonial pedagogical frameworks into my teaching and programming. My goal is always to create structured, responsive environments where young people feel safe, seen, and empowered. Stewarding community spaces was a collective responsibility ran by the people for the people. We mobilized community support through marketing campaigns. With technical training in graphic design community weaving became foundational. Connecting different grassroot organizations, food justice, harm reduction, housing justice, across the East Bay threaded a mutual aid network.
